Culture

‘Jenny Hall is an inspirational designer. She is highly creative, deep thinking, professional and an empathic collaborator. Her work surpassed my aspirations.’

Our Ethos

Making architecture in the cultural realm is an interdisciplinary practice. Each project is specific and requires a different team to work together to combine their knowledge bases, offer creative responses and provide technical expertise towards a shared goal or vision. It is at the junction of these boundaries where progressive artistic and architectural experimentation can happen and where culture is created.

Culture is not created in a vacuum however and any new piece of work whether ephemeral or relatively permanent will sit within an existing context and any historical complexities that have arisen there. We believe that these intangible qualities of place merit careful consideration and benefit working with communities to build the right kind of project with the best chance of success.

Collaborative working allows ambitions to be raised and successful outcomes to be created.

We have designed permanent public realm projects for the Ceredigion Museum, Theatr Arad Goch, Caerphilly Borough County Council and Frongoch Boatyard on the Dyfi Estuary. These buildings and interiors are site specific expressions of the organisations who have commissioned them and what they stand for. Where appropriate, we have developed creative consultation programmes in conjunction with key stakeholders to co-design the brief and project together.

Working collaboratively with choreographers, theatre directors and dancers, we have designed and built ephemeral stages, scenography, pavilions and artworks for a number of cultural organisations such as Mac Birmingham, the National Dance Company of Wales, The National Eisteddfod, the Machynlleth Comedy Festival and Culture Action Llandudno.

Sustainability

We design and build public realm projects in consideration of the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) Eight Sustainable Outcomes and Julie’s Bicycle’s Seven Trends of a Creative Climate Movement.

An organisation can work within these ambitious frameworks to ensure that every site and project can meaningfully contribute to a sustainable and abundant future through a range of local and global benefits from material re-use, the adoption of cradle-to-cradle cycles in material specification and a reduction in carbon emissions.
